Abandonment of Religiosity A Glance at Jewish Law and Law...
Jewish Law is considered to be Divine Law due to its direct influence from God. God handed over a set of laws to the Jews and left it to adapt and flourish with them. They followed these rules, but in time they became obsolete which forced them to intervene and change the laws to better suit their society. Rabbinic judaism evolved as the philosopher king of interpreting the Hebrew Bible. These interpretations formed the Talmud. Although the interpretations were much like opinions on what the Bible said, they became universally accepted as law. Rabbiââ¬â¢s argued for centuries over which interpretation was better. A few notable Rabbis emerged like Rabbi Maimonides and Rabbi Joseph Karo. With large build ups and further outdated laws, Josephâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It included mainly discussions on law (halakah), but also included some stories of Jewish tradition. The next step of interpretation by the rabbiââ¬â¢s was done when the Talmud was created. The Talmud consists of two parts: a commentary done by the second generation rabbiââ¬â¢s on the Mishnah, called the Gemara, and the Mishnah itself. The emergence of the Talmud initiated a whole to way of study for the Jews. Since the Talmud was so in depth and complex, there was a lot more to study and interpret for themselves. However, with its complexity, debate arose. At this point there were so many hands in the pot that many started to argue over who was right and who was wrong. Authority within the rabbinic community was very dependent on how the rabbi chose to voice his own opinions in his interpretation. Jewish studies had become political. The rabbis of the Greco-Roman period evolved the notion that Bible and everything in it was no longer Godââ¬â¢s. They said that the Bible was not in heaven anymore, thus God had no authority over what the Bible contained. God had handed it over at Mount Sinai. This gave then rabbiââ¬â¢s even more authority over their interpretations. The connection fo r Jews to God had then changed. They were no longer looking up to God, but instead to the Rabbiââ¬â¢s and the Talmud. Divinity in Jewish culture was forever fading from this point on. C. Rabbi Maimonides The Jews in the Greco-Roman Period left behind the Talmud (Babylonian and Palestinian) as well as

Greece; The Pros and Cons of Democracy Therein - 2680 Words
Introduction Greece; where many of the most important scientific and philosophical questions are thought to have first arisen, is also considered by most to be the birthplace of demokratia; or as we regard it, democracy. A system for and by the people, democracy has since transcended its early Athenian practice to become the most predominant political system in the world today. Thus wouldnt it be fitting to think that by now, Greece of all places would have found equilibrium throughout every aspect of a system it birthed several thousand years ago? Logically, this would make sense, but a democratic system of governance hasnt always been the preferred practice in Greece. In fact, Greeces democratic model is still relatively young whenâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Where they had not yet adopted the euro nor ascended into the union, Greeces public service sector (though accounting for half the countries GDP) was seen to seriously hinder any efforts to increase economic growth. But since accession, rapid mobilization of the economy has started to route out the stitches in the corrupt service sector (most reform has been in recent years though). But rapid economic reform didnt come directly after accession, for it wasnt until recently that Greece started better allocating EU subsidies. Until the country had finally set out to reform its poorly structured civil service sector, much of the subsidies were seen to be wasted on remedial government plans and initiatives such as increased electorate pay. Abuse of subsidies was recorded up until the early 90s, but since then Greece has seen considerable returns in foreign investments, and a marginal decrease in both the national debt and inflation rates . To better illustrate Greeces economic standing today, one might take note of the fact that the country is now in a position to distribute large amounts of aid (E.g., Bosnia- Herzegovina) while slowly relying less and less on EU subsidies. Many also believe that Greeces poor economic s trategies in early years should serve as a lesson for future Balkan members awaiting accession into the EU as well. When Greece had adopted a democratic system of governance, it also carried with it theShow MoreRelatedLogical Reasoning189930 Words à |à 760 Pagesthis when you paid attention to probabilities and consequencesââ¬âyou weighed the pros and consââ¬âof going or staying. Cheerleading Is a Sport Free Essays
March 15, 2010 Cheerleading is a sport Do you consider cheerleading to be a sport like football, or any other sport? In most cases, many people tend to laugh at the idea of cheerleading being called a ââ¬Å"sportâ⬠. People sometimes laugh because they are use to seeing cheerleaders cheer, and doing basic jumps only on the sidelines of games. In reality, they should know that cheerleading can be as dangerous as most sports. We will write a custom essay sample on Cheerleading Is a Sport or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the following essay I will be telling you why I consider cheerleading is a sport. Some part of the confusion on whether cheerleading is considered a sport or not; comes from the history of cheerleading. It all started during a football game at Princeton University. No one is sure about the date, but it is said to have started in the 1880s. At that time cheerleaders were limited to basic jumps. For example, back then they were only aloud to do cartwheels. Many yearsââ¬â¢ later competitions for cheerleading started. These competitions were not about what team can scream the loudest. These competitions were about whom can do the best stunts, have the most solid pyramid, and lastly have the best tumbling Many cheerleaders, coaches, and others involved in cheerleading, know that what cheerleaders do is just as challenging as other sports, For example, like cross-country, they run. Football players toss others, they toss girls up in the air, and the girls expect to be catch by their teammates. Like soccer players kick, they can have high kicks. Lastly, they can jump and tumble like gymnast. Cheerleaders also risk themselves building up pyramids. They are risking themselves because it can be dangerous when some one falls off or something might have gone wrong. Cheerleaders also have injuries through out the year and tryouts like all other sports. Cheerleading takes just as much dedication and skills as any other sport. Most people in this country would define a sport as an activity that pushes the individual physically and mentally to perform at their levels. And also to have some competitive component involved. Today, the games that cheerleaders attend for their school are mostly practice compared to the competitive events. If people doubt that cheerleading is a sport, they can easily take a look at some cheerleading squads performing a routine. People can go ahead and look at them on ESPN (the cable sports network). ESPN officially declared cheerleading a sport. They also began showing the national cheerleading competitions that were taking place around the country. In this show you will be able to see members of the squad leap across the mattââ¬â¢s. Also complete tumbling just like gymnast. Hopefully one day cheerleading will be considered a sport as football or any other sport to everyone in this country. Maybe even appear in the Olympics, since cheerleaders are just athletic and physically fit as those involved and accepted as sports. How to cite Cheerleading Is a Sport, Papers

How would you direct act 3 scenes 1 of Romeo and Juliet for a contemporary audience at the globe theatre Essay Example For Students
How would you direct act 3 scenes 1 of Romeo and Juliet for a contemporary audience at the globe theatre? Essay We have been working on Romeo and Juliet for some time now. We were asked to write an essay on act 3 scene 1 At the start of the play I would have a narrator to tell the audience what happens. He would explain the background of the feud between the Montagues and the caplets. At the start of the of play Romeo acts strange in front of his best friends. His friends dont know that he loves Juliet. Romeo is like at love puppy he is always thinking about Juliet .this scene is the main part that sparks the evil between the Montagues and the capulats. The major differences between acting now than the year 1590 has a lot of difference. 1590: 90% went to theatre. 2000: less than 5% 1590: men acted no women were allowed 1590: people were allowed to throw things on stage The two families are called Montagues and the capulats.the story lies in the streets of Verona. I would make the feud relevant to the modern audience by making the accents of the capulats Scottish and the Montagues English. On stage I would make the caplets wear black and the Montagues wear white. This will show that they both hate each other and that they are complete different, and that they have nothing in common apart from they are both rich and wealthy and popular. I would make my play modern by keeping the original set simple and as close to the Shakespeare as possible. I would make suttee changes such as trap doors so people can appear on stage quickly and suddenly for the fighting scene. I would have the fight in the different parts of the audience to give it some real effects because this is the most action packed point of the scene .I would have a spot of light on the two main characters and low lighting in different areas showing the different fight that have broken out in other areas. Another thing I would do is when Merctio dies I would have him die with his body sliding down a pillar, his head hanging over the edge of the stage looking into the audience saying his last words for the ultimate dramatic effect. To bring this play to the 20th century will be quite difficult, so I have to make subtle but noticeable changes. E.g. Instead of swords I would have guns but their brand names would be sword so when they draw they would say draw out your sword (which actually they mean gun) this would relate the original Shakespearean text. I would use the sound as to help with the background and to help with the mood what the scene is relating to at the moment in time.eg. when the fight between is happening between romeo and mecutio I would use a fast beat as the sound of my background because the audience dont want romeo to die or have mecutio to be the second person to die on the streets. At the beginning of the scene tybalt is in a rampage because of Romeo marrying juilet. At the end of the scene he is dead. The audience will feel for tybalt. Tybalt with enter the scene thought a trap door shouting and when he dies he will exit the scene by a coffin. Tybalt: leather jacket, leather trousers. Two guns under his jacket. Leather shoes with metal heals.1 ring on his finger saying Capulet. Romeo: opened shirt. Jeans with a leather belt and sandals. And 1 gun clipped with his belt. .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .postImageUrl , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:hover , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:visited , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:active { border:0!important; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:active , .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7 .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u717fe3b0f637be113144cac2ad9f5dc7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Nurse is employed by the Capulet EssayMecutio: jeans, belt with 2 guns, no t-shirt. Benvolio :three quarter length trousers. With a t-shirt. Romeo: he will act calm and cool but at the same time a bit scared. Tybalt: he will act dangerous and will be unafraid of nothink. Benvoilo: hes acts as thought hes walking in the park on a quiet day. Mecutio: he will act carm. Overall I think to bring the play in the 21st would take a lot of hard work and lots of changes. When it is finished I think it would be worth it and it will be a big hit with the audience. All my changes with be suttee but oviouis.eg .as I said earlier about the guns.
